Title: Kindergarten Teaching Assistant Long-Term Substitute

 

Position Summary: 

Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Long-Term Substitute Kindergarten Teaching Assistant to join our team for a 7-week period. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our youngest learners. The successful candidate will work closely with the lead teacher to deliver instruction across all subject areas and provide individualized support to students.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans across literacy, math, and social studies.
  • Lead small groups or 1-on-1 sessions to reinforce learning concepts and provide differentiated support.
  • Help students navigate social interactions, develop self-regulation skills, and foster a positive classroom culture.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Partner effectively with the kindergarten team and specialists to ensure student success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the daily operations of the classroom.

 Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.
  • Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Hours: 30.08 hours per week
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45 AM – 2:30 PM
  • Wednesday: 7:45 AM – 1:20 PM
  • Salary: Commensurate with WTA Unit B Salary Scale based on level of experience as a non-exempt hourly based employee
  • Range: $23.63 – $30.29
